What is stewardship?

•Stewardship is the prayerful work of managing our time, talent and treasure to bring about God’s kingdom on earth.

•Stewardship is a part of our spiritual journey and our relationship with God.

What is a pledge?

A pledge is your commitment to make a financial gift that supports the mission of First Baptist Church in Melrose.  Pledging is a response to God’s call and abundance in our own lives: it is a statement of thanksgiving.

What happens to the money I give?

Your pledge supports everything we experience at FBC — worship, pastoral care, education programs, our social-outreach programs seven days a week, maintenance of our beloved buildings, and more.

Can’t we just rely on the endowment?

We do have an endowment generously left to us by previous generations of FBC members. This extraordinary legacy would quickly disappear, however, if we relied on it as the primary source of support year after year. Such a policy would be irresponsible toward the FBC members who will follow us. Therefore staff salaries, program expenses, and the ongoing cost to open our doors to serve the church and the city every day rely primarily on support from the living members.

How much should I pledge?

We believe strongly that our standard of giving should reflect our standard of living. We ask each member to consider making a pledge that is both responsible and significant based on his or her financial situation. A tithe (10% of your income) has long been held as the standard of Christian giving. For most it is a goal to be reached through incremental increases each year. At FBC, every pledge, no matter what amount makes a valued contribution to our mission and ministry.
